Volunteer Opportunities & FAQ

Regular Drivers: Monday - Friday

Drivers who are assigned a consistent route, week after week.  Most routes are currently assigned, but that changes regularly.  Ask if you are interested in a regular route through the year!

Summer/Seasonal Drivers: Monday-Friday

Summer drivers needed May-August to drive a regular weekly route while the regular driver is out of town.

On-Call Drivers: Monday-Friday

An On-Call driver is a sub driver assigned to a specific day. They will be assigned to the first open route due to regular driver cancellations, the On-Call Driver plans on driving every week.  If we do not have an open route, we will notify you in advance. An On-Call Driver will get a variety of routes because they will be filling in for a regular driver.  We ask that our volunteers arrive at the hospital by 11 a.m.

Actual meal delivery takes 45 min to 1 hour depending on the route. Time commitment 11-12:30 one day a week.

Substitute Drivers

Substitute Drivers sign up to drive only as a sub on certain days. Regular drivers frequently add an extra day a week to sub in addition to their regular day.

What our volunteer is saying:

“I remember my great-grandmother receiving “Meals on Wheels” to her San Pedro California home when I was a child. The service made a lasting impression on me and I’ve always intended to volunteer for the program. I began driving for Meals on Wheels for Fort Collins last fall and have been so pleased with my interaction with the organization, volunteers and clients. I love having my set route and getting to know the grateful clients. My life has truly been enriched by Meals on Wheels and those I have met”.
